I love sweet things but I think if I could only have one type of food for the rest of my life I would have to choose a savory item.
One of my childhood memories of things mum cooked were these great cheese sticks. She never cooked them very often but I loved them when she did. This is a slightly updated version of that recipe and with the addition of the caraway seeds it is very
hard to stop at just one. This recipe came from the December 2004 issue of “Better Homes and Gardens” Magazine. – Pewsey
- 100g unsalted or reduced salt butter – chopped
- 100g extra tasty cheese (I used about 80 grams of tasty and about 20 of Parmesan to add an extra tang.)
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1 egg separated
- Caraway seeds
Preheat oven to 180 deg Place butter, cheese flour and egg yolk in mixer or food processor until it forms a ball.
Place on a lightly floured board and knead gently into a smooth ball. Wrap in baking paper and place in the fridge for 10 minutes.
Roll dough out onto lightly floured surface till about 3 mm thick. Cut into what ever shape or strip you want to make. Place on tray and brush with whisked egg white. Sprinkle with caraway seeds.
Bake for 8-10 minutes until pale golden.
Cool on tray for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week or Eat straight away – yummy! 🙂
